Appearance - The beer poured a rusty brown color with an off- white head.
Smell - The bready sweetness of the caramel nose was accompanied by some bitterness.
Taste - Sweet caramel came with a bready backbone. What I found most appealing were the bitter hop notes that acted like rye. This provided a sense of bitterness. Notes of orange rind came at the finish.
Mouthfeel - The viscosity and light carbonation allowed the profile to linger.
Overall - This was a nice interpretation of an American barleywine.
