a new collaboration with wiley roots, who is also totally killing it right now. a session type ipe featuring equinox hops. its bright but cloudy, light but fluffy looking, really carbonated and holding a nice head, it fits in well visually with the rest of the hoppy beers they make here. its nice to see equinox hops in this isolated, east coast style context, im not sure i have encountered them in this format before, but either they just arent quite as dynamic and versatile as some others are, at least in this mostly dry hopped method, or the recipe is just a little tame, they smell and taste fantastic, but there isnt quite enough of them to ride out the whole length of the beer, which is extended and stretched out by a pretty grainy base, albeit a dry and earthy one, this has some starch and protein to it, bigger feeling for a session, which i love in the mouthfeel, but perhaps it overwhelms the hops just a little bit, more might be better, but also maybe not. i do think there is nice balance here, but this is more in the pale ale frame for me than the ipa, it doesnt really have the bitterness or obvious hop punch, and while i like how well integrated these hops are, i also kind of wish they were a little more pronounced through the malt. notes of sweet corn, apricot, and tangerine come out, and the finish is awesome, juicy and fresh. a nice respite from some of their huge ipas if you want to stay in the game a little longer, but less complexity and hop intensity than i am now used to from these guys...
