this is such a cool beer, a collaboration with casey, who obviously kills it, but not in this style, so i didnt really know what to expect here. its literally the new england ipa that forces one on the fence to finally and ultimately and once and for all decide whether they are in or out on the style. its because this is as good an expression of heavy handed new school varietal dry hopping as you will ever see i dont care the name on the sticker decorated pint can, it can only equal, not surpass this, and thus judgement must be passed, not on this beer, but on the entire thing, at least in my mind. i find myself thinking how much i love nelson and galaxy, and how if i am ever going to drop the pretense and built up bias against the hazies, this is the beer to do it over, all preconceived notions and negative energy must either be dropped forever as a baseline for the style or else embraced and ill become a curmudgeon on this sort of thing. but i already know before i sip it that itll be the former not the latter. nelson drips from this thing in all its glory, if you are at all familiar with this, imagine it times ten. same for the galaxy, and obvious citra behind all that. starchy in feel and looks, but dry, white looking, full but old worldy, a perfect base for these hops that may or may not even include the prerequisite pale barley malt. soft and bright, amazing hop depth and flavor, even a little bitterness, more than i usually know from these varietals, and just something really special. obviously its fresh to the max and tasting amazing right now, the dry hop profile has some casey influence too in the context of their hoppier wild beers, and overall its hard not to not only fall in love with this one, but with the new england style, permanently, after this. great in isolation, an unknown ambassador for cloudy ipa, and just freaking delicious! i guess i am all in...
