Thanks to LumpkinBrews for this 16 oz. can from my favorite state in the nation & a new brewery to me. Split with my wife.
The pour is pineapple juice yellow – don’t leave this on a table around small kids, people. The nose is dominate by sweet, sugar-tinged citrus.
Way Down – Double Dry Hopped should really have some kind of fruit flesh floating in it. Just like the nose there is a massive citrus hit tailgated (is that one word?) by a massive spike of raw, mouth ravaging sugar. Wickedly green, underripe hops & a harsh, acidic aggressiveness. Half a can is plenty.
The first sip wasn’t bad, but the sweetness overwhelmed my delicate sensibilities rapidly. Not a very good beer.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a one pint can on October 12, 2019. Brewed with Wakatu and Mosaic hops. Mango, lemon, citrus, earthy pine, tropical fruit, herbal and stone fruit notes.

wakatu and mosaic double dry hopped edition of their already impressive way down, a recent can release and frankly one of the better outer range beers i have ever had. i love mosaic, but i always think it needs a dance partner, and lately, one other than citra. wakatu is really perfect with this, and the almost overdose of the two varietals in this solid double ipa make it memorable for me, one of the better expressions of wakatu out there, and really among the better hoppy beers in colorado right now i reckon. it has that cryo intensity to it, crystalline and concentrated, not quite oily but resinous and powerful, bitter too which i really like in a hazy ipa i have decided, it adds some depth, balance, and helps them finish. green plant matter, kiwi fruit, honeydew melon, lemon and lime, its really bright, white wine grape too, and lots of oats and wheat, hearty and almost healthful to me, really deep and good, seemingly more refined than a lot of their others, and just a little more vibrant and attention commanding than the original way down. not way different, just like fresher and brighter to me. the freshness here is awesome, second to none, and the high carbonation keeps it from ever feeling heavy or as strong as it is, i even find it refreshing when its cold. i loved this one. keep it up guys!
