a wonderful new england style double ipa here, courtesy of some killer beer mail, fresh as can be, very well refined for a style that permits some slop, and the first i have had from these guys in way too long. this is done with nelson, azacca, and cashmere, and seems to have the nelson in the drivers seat. it has a pretty thick look to it, matte pale orange in color, but also has a fluffy almost inch of white and no visible sediment, along with plenty of carbonation as i drink it, doesnt feel as heavy as it looks, and the radiant freshness aids in that too. it smells like juicy white grape, white peach, fresh melon, and lemongrass. ive never been a huge azacca guy, but it clearly adds a neat spicy intensity to this that is very unlikely to have come from either the nelson or the cashmere. herbal and oily at the same time, an almost candied intensity to it, but clean enough on the swallow. the fermentation is complete and very tidy, the alcohol is invisible, its fuller feeling without being gross, and the malt has very little flavor outside of earthy structure for the hops to cling to. its a cool mix of hops, potent and up front, and i think this represents some of the better quality beer in this style i have had in awhile, as well as one of the more unique examples of it too, these guys just do their own thing and seem to always hit. i miss having regular access to their beers, but that makes drinking one like this even more special. great to do it over video chat with the homie that shipped it! really delicious hop cocktail here!
