What's the difference between a Belgian Pale Ale and a hazy IPA? It turns out not much. Outer Range Brewing specializes in both Belgian and India Pale Ale and they've blurred this line to near perfection.
Creating such ripple, Ripple pours rusty gold while shedding a frothy white cap. As the bubbles settle, a fruity and spicy scent of citrus, pepper, orchard fruit and light toast start to fill the nose. With the initial sip, a toasty-sweet taste of light honey, toasted shortcake and sugar cookie greets the palate with a maltier tone.
As the flavors continue to unfold, its the fruit esters that provide a juicier and slightly winey tone with grape, pear, lemon and cantaloup. With a help from citrusy and tropical hops, the suggestions of grapefruit, orange, mango, pineapple and apricot complete the fruit cocktail. Not to be outdone, the hop bitterness links up with the beer's natural yeast spices for a finish of clove, spruce, white pepper, herbal tea, hay and lemon pepper for an assertive uptick in bitterness.
Medium bodied, creamy and trending malty dry across the finish, the beer's nearly minty closure allows the Belgian spice to rise in the finish to allow for a more Belgian than hazy balance to emerge. A medium long aftertaste of perfume, spice and a hint of soap extends in a warming afterglow.
