16 ounce can, 12% ABV, canned on 08/21/20, thanks to Jon and Meg for this brew! Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch or so tan head that stuck around a while. Good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like caramel, chocolate, vanilla, rye whiskey, oak and roasted malt. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some dark bread, earthy, and some burnt/charred malt flavors. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's slick, rich and creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I liked this rye barrel aged brew a lot, wish I had another can or 2. This one certainly aged well, and I definintely recommend this one to people who like rye barrel aged stouts or imperial stouts in general!

Pours a deep black color, nice mocha head on top, subtle lacing with a touch of retention. The smell of the beer has a nice woody spicy earthy aroma. The taste doesn’t have much else but a very nice spicy rye bourbon flavor but it doesn’t overpower the beer. The feel is smooth and finishes dry. Overall the beer is really nice, really good use of barrel aging.

Shiny stark black with a moderate fizzy tan foam that can be rejuvenated well with a swirl.

Smell is nutty oak and nearly smoky dark roasted malt with a sort of spicy herbal sassafras and rye, finishing with milk chocolate.

In flavor, the roasted malt also almost seems smoked, with a spicy, waxy peanut butter rye barrel. Cocoa and a slight whiskey tingle follow, with a touch of almond extract barely in the background.

A slick medium body has a light bubbly fizz, finishing semi-dry.

Really impressed with the rye nose on this Imp stout. A lot of nuance, and the rye doesn't dominate by any means. The palate is less artful unfortunately, and the barrel overtakes any base stout that might be present underneath. Might do well with some age to let the barrel presence recede. Mouthfeel is relatively on point. Overall it's very competent, but doesn't reach the level of anything truly special.
