While crafting our 420th brew of 2021, we used a massive dose of Centennial hops to commemorate the occasion. Notes of pine, tangerine, and orange marmalade will make themselves known to even the greatest skeptics in this classic American Barleywine Style Ale. You can expect a bitter finish and hints of caramel, but we can't guarantee that it will help you find our favorite Ohio cryptid, the Grassman.

1 PINT can
Served in a snifter

This beer pours copper colored with a slight haze. It is topped with a couple inches of tan head that leaves decent lacing.

Caramel malt aroma with resiny pine.

Some caramel upfront. Citrus with a focus on orange peel and grapefruit. Pine needle finish. Bitter

Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel

American hopped up barleywine. More like an old school IPA. I have always preferred the sweeter, malty English barleywine and still do.

From the 16 oz can in a snifter. This solid little American style barleywine
pours a chill hazed burnt auburn with a nice head of white foam that settles
to a thick ring, thin clumping layer, and sports some nice lacing. Nose of
grassy and strong herbal hops dashed with pine and pineapple amongst
caramel malt. Flavors surpass the nose with a nice presentation of caramel
malts drenched in grassy, strong pine, strong herbal, and citrus laden hops.
Mouth feel is medium, medium carbonation that has some nice lift, and a
bitter hop forward finish.

Overall, a solid little brew!

Cheers

Canned on 2/22/22. 16oz can poured into a tulip.

Pours a burnt golden with decent clarity; fluffy light khaki head that fades leaving really nice retention and sticky lacing.

The aromas are malt forward along with some citrus and caramel.

The flavors follow the nose. More citrus, especially grapefruit and lemon. Some floral notes coming through. Some pine in the mix. More caramel along with some toffee. The hops definitely come through. Solid bitterness to go with solid hop flavors as well. Moderate sweetness. It's bittersweet. Solid malt backbone. Mild warmth in the finish, but it's still ultimately dangerously drinkable.

Mouthfeel is full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's fluffy, sharp and smooth.

This is a nice "American Barleywine". It's hop forward but still stays true to the style. It doesn't just feel like a malty Imperial IPA. Really nice barleywine flavors. Well done.
