Another Masthead brew; the last one hit a dead end, so I’m counting on this 500ML bottle to redeem the brewery in my short-term memory. Or destroy that memory. Either way works.
The interesting concoction pours out dull, black, blah. The nose speaks of smoke, honey, & cognac, in that order. No bourbon. C’mon, bourbon.
Omega Beams has a lot to write home about. Cognac up front, subtle, yet woven into the DNA of everything in the beer. It’s beautiful. Mid-palate brings a lot of smaller kicks: roast, honey, bourbon, building sweetness, soft bitterness. Booze is apparent but not distracting. Thick; lactose spren are dancing near the empty bottle. So drinkable.
This has that extra kick of ‘sumpthin’ that great beers pick up outside of the ingredients. It’s complex without being obnoxious, tasty without hitting you upside, drinkable without being boring. Absolutely fantastic brew.

Brownish black body, brown cap. Smell has smoky honeycomb with big bourbon and cognac booze, mild dark fruitiness behind. Taste is a little more defined with the booze and not smoky, caramel, honey, mild oak, butterscotch, and dark fruits all there, but it has a stringent pungency on the end that is distracting from the true greatness it could have been. As is it is good in a different way. Is thick and boozier, sweetness cloys a bit, sticky all the way. Reminds me OH's Event Horizon with less depth

Turbid and nearly headless dark brown with some faint red hues therein.
Pleasantly thick and immensely complex, I experience maple, butterscotch, cognac and honey before a slightly sticky finish.
