500 ml bottle into a snifter. Blend 2, from 2024, had 11/2/24.
Pours an opaque dark brown, with a quickly dissipating quarter inch head and a few faint specks of cling. Aromas of bourbon, apple brandy, oak, some chocolate, light rye whiskey, light char. The flavors follow the nose: rye whiskey, bourbon, oak, malt, some apple brandy, light chocolate. Smooth, a lighter than expected full body, well carbonated.
All the barrels show well, and while there’s not much to pick out beyond that other than oak, it’s pretty nuanced and definitely tasty. This was well worth the purchase.

Pours oily black with little to no carbonation and only a thin veneer of foam. Aroma is deeply bourbon, chocolate, whiskey, brandy and wood. Taste is primarily bourbon and ABV; as the warmth of the beer fills you, profiles of bourbon, whiskey and chocolate at the very end are detectable. While perhaps not the most balanced beer, still one that is quite smooth and worth your time.

Another Masthead brew, this one in a 500ML black-waxed bottle, as I’m developing a fondness for this brewery. And they had me at bourbon, rye, & apple brandy. Mmmm.
The pour is blacker than the heart of Andrew Eldritch, though it doesn’t sound as good. Little to the nose except apple brandy.
Old Gods Never Die disappoints. There’s a little bourbon & apple brandy, green apple, sweetness, faint roast. No rye at all. That is not acceptable. I’ll finish it, but I’m not sure why.
Strictly mediocre.

Having this beer on tap at the brewery. Drawn and served in a snifter glass, this beer is a very dark brown, almost black color with a tan head that’s about 1/8 of an inch thick on first drawn and served that settles quickly to a thin ring lighting the inside of the glass and a slight touch of lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, oak, and apple brandy sweetness Are all quite apparent indeed. Has a very similar flavor profile, with the aforementioned roasted malts That give way to the Oak and apple brandy sweetness. The apple flavor I’m tasting is definitely like a red delicious, sweetness. Certainly not any green apple sour funk type of stuff going on here. Not a very complex flavor profile to be sure, but damn good! Has a fairly dry finish, and all of the flavors linger nicely on my palate indeed in the aftertaste.

Void black with a thin tan head quickly dispersing to an uneven quarter pipe ridge.
