During its time in rye whiskey barrels, this Imperial Stout mingled with locally roasted coffee beans from Six Shooter Coffee, imbuing it with a depth of flavor and complexity not attainable on its own.

16 ounce can into a tulip snifter. Canned 7/19/24, had 4/18/25.

Pours near black and opaque, with a half inch head of creamy foam and some brief foamy lacing. Aromas of coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, some rye whiskey, some oak and char, light vanilla. Has a little bit of a spicy aroma. The flavors are much the same: coffee, roasted malt, rye whiskey, chocolate, some oak and vanilla. Has a somewhat spicy taste. Smooth, a little creamy, a very good full body, appropriately carbonated.

Very nice. The delicious and plentiful coffee stars, and the rye barrels are sufficient while not as spicy as some. Underverse never disappoints, whatever the variant.

Pours dense black with a dark, crema-like head. Aroma is whiskey and coffee. There is an overarching rye profile here as well that lifts above the other profiles, but doesn't overwhelm. The tasting is quite complex, with whiskey, coffee, malt and chocolate with notes of sweetness and molasses. To call this delightful seems to somehow undersell it. This is fantastic and easily one of my favorite coffee brews of all time. The effect on tasting this brew is to find your shoulders relaxing and a calm, satisfied peace settling in. Highly recommended.

From the 16 oz can in a snifter. This solid imperial pours a dark coal black
with deep dark brown highlights and a nice head of light brown foam that
settles to a thick ring, thin dusty layer, and sports some nice lacing and legs!
Nose of whiskey, spicy rye, deep coffee, deep dark cocoa, and mellow vanilla
dashed with oak and dark raisins. Flavors knock it out of the park! Mellow
coffee and dark bakers chocolate dance about whiskey, vanilla, oak, and
dark fruit notes of dark raisin and blueberry dashed with cream and balanced char.
Mouth feel is full, smooth, rich, coating, light carbonation, and a medium sweet
finish balanced by char and brulee.

Overall, an exceptional brew from a great little brewery!

Cheers

16 ounce can, canned 7/19/24, thanks to Brutaltruth for this one! Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch or so tan head that stuck around a little while. There's also a decent amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like fudge, roasted malt, rye whiskey, coffee and oak. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some dark bread, molasses and earthy flavors. Good amount of barrel character in both the aroma and taste. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's rich and a bit slick with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a pretty good rye whiskey barrel aged brew, definitely worth trying if you get the chance!

Appearance: A hard pour yields a tan film that quickly fades to a collar; the liquid underneath is a very dark brown; a few squiggles of lacing

Smell: Boozy with fruity espresso and molasses tones; strong chocolate and Rye barrel influences emerge

Taste: Fruity espresso forward with dark chocolate and molasses flavors merging; through the middle, the finish is boozy and filled with spicy Rye barrel influences

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low carbonation; plenty of warmth in the gullet

Overall: With 13.6% ABV, this one drinks a lot bigger and, in my book, that is not a good thing; I gravitate toward Rye barrel beers but this one is just too strong and boozy for my palate

Having this beer on tap at the brewery. Drawn and served in a snifter glass, this beer is a very dark brown, almost black color with a tan head that’s about 1/8 of an inch thick on first drawn and served that settles quickly to a thin ring lighting the inside of the glass and a slight touch of lacing. Aromas of very roasted malts, along with a bit of chocolate, some rye oak and rye spice, and of course some alcohol. A very similar flavor profile, with the aforementioned roasted malts, some chocolate sweetness, and rye oak. The rye whiskey note is present, but not overly bearing. Neither is the barrel oak. The taste is pretty much exactly the same as the aroma, and that is a wonderful thing. A quite well balanced flavor profile too w/ all the different aforementioned flavors going on here. The!rye, oak, and booze notes do come across as being just slightly stronger than the other flavors.Has a thick, slightly syrupy, just slightly oily, slightly dry, full bodied mouth feel. Just as I would expect a beer like this to have. All of the flavors really coat the palette nicely and linger there for quite a while after each step for the aftertaste. A very good beer here indeed.
