2019 bottling (Batch 01)
Pours an inky black body as a darker shade of khaki foam forms just shy of a head, petering out to virtually no cap, but a persistent, bubbly collar of froth.
Aromas of toasty cacao nibs and burnt vanilla bean offering a semi-creamy opening; a big whiff of bourbon quickly softens to a light barrel presence seeping into the background; hazelnut, subtle cherry and dark fruit quietly become more defined over time.
Taste brings oaky barrel out first followed by mild bakers chocolate and burnt sugar developing along the mid-palate; dark fruits and more rounded milk chocolate brighten up the finish.
Mouthfeel is on the lighter side of a medium body, with very slight, tingly carbonation; semi-creamy with roasty char taking over along the way; becomes slick into a mildly warming, semi-sweet/sticky finish; mild alcohol presence.
A robust, nicely defined profile that lacks a burlier barrel intensity while compensating with a more conservative, even approach. This is a very easy 13% sipper, as the barrel presence takes a slight backseat to the complexities of the base stout, and with results both satisfying and leaving me wanting more.

Pours pitch black, nearly impervious to light. Massive mocha head lasts for several minutes, leaving a good amount of lacing. Aroma is heavy on the burnt malts, good whiff of barrel char and some dark chocolate, a touch of English yeast as well as some sweet vanilla. Flavor is sweet milk chocolate, charred barrel, dark roasted malts, Touch of bourbon, sweet brown sugar. Carbonation is appropriate. Overall a fantastic BA Imperial Stout, very nicely done.

Sampling a cellar temp bottle poured into my snifter. I picked up this bottle straight from the brewery and have to say I really dig the name of this one. At 13% it seems pretty appropriate for this adventure.
The beer pours a deep cola brown color with no light passing through my glass. A fluffy tan head of 3 cm foams up even with a gentle pour. This foam fades to a sturdy edge layer that remains throughout my sampling.
Aroma on this brew is roasted malts and coffee ground with some dark chocolate and a bit of sweet brown sugar. This could also be some burnt marshmallow note, like the ones that catch fire when camping. No real ABV hint and the hops are absent here. Definitely a malty imperial stout.
The first sip reveals a very smooth textured, fairly big bodied brew with very fine, gentle rolling carbonation. Almost creamy texture that makes this beer a physically pleasing experience.
Flavor is what I would expect based on the style and the nose. I get dark roasted malt character with some dark chocolate notes with a bit of sweeter hot cocoa character. There is also some sweet candy note and a bit of bourbon buried in the background. I dont get any hops anywhere. the booze does come through on the finish with a bit of warming that is evident in my belly. So while the beer drinks WAAAY to easy for 13%, the warmth at the finish will remind you its a sipper, nightcap kinda brew. Im really glad I bought this bottle and will be going back to get some more to share this local CT treat. Well worth the purchase, just dont plan on doing anything serious after emptying your bottle or glass!
