an absolutely fantastic hibiscus lager, simple in the best possible way, crazy clean and drinkable, a fine base lager no doubt, not a ton to it, but clean as can be, dry, and without a ton of european character either in terms of malt or yeast, which i think lends to high drinkability and refreshment value, along with letting the hibiscus really lead the way on this thing, its a great beer, one of my favorites from one of my time out east. stunning jewel pink color, looks like proper hibiscus tea, clear with some sparkle and a high ever so slightly stained pink head from the tap, nice and airy and lasting. the nose is understated, which i think is a good thing, its crisping lager yeast, dry cereal grain, and a softly red floral element with a hint of tart berry to it, red currant or something, but its decidedly not overdone, perfume-like, or inorganic, its really pleasant, summery, and almost healthful to me, lightly citric. the flavor is killer, way more robust than the nose, and the hibiscus is super real to me, it carries some bitterness and some piquant notes which make this thirst quenching to an insane degree, fresh and lively, notes of red raspberry and cranberry, lemon, and minerals too. the base lager is light but not watery, its bubbly and expressive, and there is just enough lager yeast and grain character to keep it beery. the hibiscus is almost grippy and drying on the tongue, beautifully dosed, absolutely pure. such a drinkable and distinctive beer, a great marriage of the beer and the flowers, subtly brilliant. i loved this, hope to get to drink it again someday...
