I am sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can at cellar temperature. Beer was purchased at the brewery in February during the 8th anniversary release. Been in my cellar since that day. All of the other variants of the 8th anniversary have been winners.
This beer pours jet black with no light passing through my glass, in fact, it seems like my glass sucks in light from the vicinity around the glass. Very dark pour. A fizzy beige head foams up about 0.5 cm and fades to almost nothing within a few minutes of the pour. There isnt much for lacing, but I do get a bit of red wine leg on the glass when I sip or swirl.
Aroma on this beer is a bit of charred dark bread, dark chocolate fudge, bourbon and mild vanilla mixing with some spicy fusol booze. No hop character on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with very fine and gentle carbonation. Texture is relatively smooth and I dont get much coating on my palate. The beer with big ABV is dangerously drinkable. Take it slow my dudes!
Flavor is what the nose advertises. I get dark chocolate fudge and some roasted malt with bordering on charred notes. Some bourbon comes through but not really much sweetness on this beer. Never any hop character and the flavor that lingers after each sip is roast and dark chocolate with a little bit of warming in my belly. This is a solid bourbon barrel aged stout with hidden booze. Would be happy with another can of this bruiser!
