Type: 16-oz. can
Glass: Melvin 14-oz. Spiegelau IPA glass
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $4.29
Purchased: May 3, 2019
Consumed: May 17, 2019
Reviewed as: American IPA
Misc.: Canned on April 18, 2019
Picked this up on a recent trip to Windmill Farms, even though I already had plenty of beer in my fridge. But Burgeon, you know? Canned description read, “West Coast IPA collab with Riip Beer Co hopped with Mosaic, Ekuanot & Simcoe Cryo.” Three pretty damn good hops. Was looking forward to it.
Poured a medium yellow-to-gold clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of rocky white head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass at different speeds. Excellent spiderweb foamy lacing. Almost perfect retention. (Sight - 4.75)
Smelled big notes of Simcoe, Mosaic and Ekuanot as advertised. Also bitter pine, papaya, berry, passion fruit, floral, mango, stone fruit and light bubblegum. More of the same from the can with the hops all shining through. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted similar to the nose, maybe not quite as good. Got bitter woody pine, Ekuanot, herbal, papaya, Mosaic, floral, passion fruit, berry, spicy Simcoe, pepper, mango, stone fruit and hints of bubblegum. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Long, spicy finish. (Feel - 4.25)
May have overrated this just a tad, but an outstanding West Coast IPA overall. (Overall - 4.00)
