Mai First Crush is our anniversary collab with our awesome friends Alvarado Street Brewery! This double dry-hopped IPA is a variation of the recipes of our own Carlsbad Crush and Alvarado Street's Mai Tai PA, two award-winning beers that are a match made in heaven. Mosaic, Nelson, and Strata... I think we're in love.

Consumed: Jan. 15, 2021
Misc.: Collab with Alvarado Street; Canned on Jan. 12, 2021
Pre-ordered this since I was going to be picking up my Depth bottle anyway. It was basically a mix of two of my favorite beers from each of Burgeon and Alvarado Street. Burgeon’s Facebook page called it “Mai First Crush is our anniversary collab with our awesome friends Alvarado Street Brewery and the second course in our beer dinner celebration! This double dry-hopped IPA is a variation of the recipes of our own Carlsbad Crush and Alvarado Street's Mai Tai PA, two award-winning beers that are a match made in heaven. Mosaic, Nelson, and Strata... I think we're in love..”
Poured a medium yellow clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy off-white head. Just a few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Almost perfect spiderweb foamy lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled huge Mosaic up front, followed by rose blossom, floral, bubblegum, berry, mango, Nelson, white grape, grapefruit and some Strata late. Almost as good out of the can. (Smell - 4.25)
Taste followed the nose, maybe even better. Got huge Mosaic, followed by rose blossom, floral, berry, bubblegum, mango, Nelson, white grape, grapefruit, wet grass and lingering black pepper. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Lively carbonation. Long finish. (Feel - 4.75)
Damn. Just a world-class IPA. (Overall - 4.50)

Clear yellow brew with abundant foam in the Chimay chalice. Aromatic with green melon and lemon. The flavor is more piney than fruity, but clean and elegant. Some citrus notes with a hint of leafy greens. Just a modest burr of bitterness. There's a touch of sweet malt but a dry finish and fine balance.
Overall this is a highly drinkable IPA with a maltier profile. It's a pleasing brew to savor when one tires of the assaults of the hop fiends. From the 16 oz can purchased from Blind Lady. Dated 01/12/21 on the bottom.
