From: Burgeon Beer Company in Carlsbad, Calif.
Purchased: Jan. 12, 2021
Consumed: Feb. 13, 2021
Misc.: Collab with Moksa Brewing Company; White waxed neck; Bottled in Jan. 2021
Pre-ordered this when it came out. Only went with this one over the second variant. Burgeon’s website called it “Depth Imperial Stout collaboration with Moksa Brewing conditioned on coconut, vanilla, and cacao! Aged for 12 months in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels, Depth is an immersive, luxurious Imperial Stout magnified by the addition of raw coconut, toasted coconut, vanilla beans, and cacao nibs.” Had high hopes going in.
Poured a pittch-black color with two fingers of khaki tan frothy head. Calm setting underneath the head. Decent spotty lacing. Below average retention. (Sight - 3.50)
Smelled vanilla, coconut, boozy bourbon, chocolate syrup, milk chocolate, crayon, cacao, banana (?), leathery oak, caramel and toffee. Much better out of the bottle with the addition of maple syrup and brown sugar. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted better than the nose. In order got milk chocolate, vanilla, coconut, chocolate syrup, cacao, caramel, toffee, oaky bourbon, sticky maple syrup and dark fruit. Seems boozier than 11.5 pct. ABV. (Taste - 4.25)
Full body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.25)
This one was not as good as I hoped, but I will say that it got better as it warmed. Probably overrated this slightly, but almost excellent. (Taste - 4.25)
