Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: American IPA
Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. Spiegelau IPA glass
Price: $4.29
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: Aug. 27, 2021
Consumed: Sept. 29, 2021
Misc.: No canned on date
Grabbed this on a trip to Windmill Farms because it was a Burgeon beer. Holiday Wine Cellar website called it “Burgeon Wander IPA is an unfiltered West Coast IPA crafted with a heavenly lineup of Strata, Citra Cryo, Simcoe Cryo, and Motueka hops over a base of 2-row, Pilsner malt, flaked rice, and pale wheat.”
Poured a pale-to-medium yellow clear color with three fingers of frothy white head. Could see lots of fast moving bubbles coming up from the bottom and sides of the glass. Excellent uneven foamy lacing. Almost perfect retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Strata jumped out on the nose. Also pine, weed, berry, grapefruit, Simcoe, passion fruit, black pepper, Citra and grass. Even a little better out of the can. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted about as good as the nose. Strata led the way once again, followed by Simcoe and Citra. Specifically bitter grapefruit peel, mixed berry, weed, pine, passion fruit, black pepper, grass and lemon zest. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Dank, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.50)
Another solid offering from Burgeon. Just an outstanding West Coast IPA. (Overall - 4.00)
