Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: American IPA
Glass: Melvin 14-oz. Spiegelau IPA glass
Price: $4.29
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: June 25, 2022
Consumed: July 22, 2022
Misc.: Collaboration with Escondido; Canned on June 9, 2022
Grabbed a bunch of cans on a recent trip to Windmill Farms. Bine & Vine’s website called it “To celebrate our vibrant community at The Oasis and to commemorate the craft beer legacy established there by our good friends at Escondido Brewing Company, we’re thrilled to present you with the revival of Hopcondido IPA. Our teams collaborated closely to create an IPA that remains true to the fan-favorite original recipe while implementing Burgeon’s innovative brewing techniques.” The hops mentioned on the back of the can read Mosaic, Citra, Centennial and Columbus, with malts of 2 Row, Pilsner, Pale Wheat and Carafoam.
Poured a medium yellow clear color with two fingers of frothy off-white head. Could see lots of bubbles coming up along the sides and from the bottom of the glass. Good spotty lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled pretty damn good right away. The Mosaic jumped out first, followed by Citra and Columbus. Specifically got Juicy Fruit, mixed berry, rose blossom, floral, grapefruit rind, mango, lemon, pine, herbal, lime and black pepper. Not quite as good from the can but did get some earthy pilsner malt. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted about as good as the nose. In order got Mosaic, Citra, mixed berry, bubblegum, rose blossom, floral, earthy pilsner malt, mango, Columbus, lemon, lime, pine, herbal, black pepper, bitter vegetable and grapefruit peel. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Creamy-to-oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, slightly bitter finish. Best part of the beer was the mouthful here. (Feel - 4.50)
Another solid West Coast IPA from Burgeon. (Overall - 4.25)
