Collaboration with Karl Strauss Brewing Company.

Clear the Mind is a West Coast Pilsner brewed in the spirit of creativity & collaboration with our good friends at Karl Strauss Brewing Company! Hop exploration & a mutual thirst for experimentation got the creative juices flowing when our brew teams crafted the recipe for this hoppy pils loaded with Strata, Chinook, and an all-new hop called Lórien.” Had never heard of Lórien, which I looked up and was described as “tangy mixed citrus, fresh melon, wildflowers and cinnamon spice.

Picked up a 4-pack of this and another Burgeon beer for golf, knowing that I’d take a few of these back home with one to review. Had two at the course, giving them a 4 on Untappd. For the first one wrote “Wanted this collab with Karl Strauss to be better. Same way I feel about my golf game.” Looking back it may not even have been a 4. Burgeon’s website called it “Clear the Mind is a West Coast Pilsner brewed in the spirit of creativity & collaboration with our good friends at Karl Strauss Brewing Company! Hop exploration & a mutual thirst for experimentation got the creative juices flowing when our brew teams crafted the recipe for this hoppy pils loaded with Strata, Chinook, and an all-new hop called Lórien.” Had never heard of Lórien, which I looked up and was described as “tangy mixed citrus, fresh melon, wildflowers and cinnamon spice.”

Poured a pale-yellow clear color with three fingers of frothy white head. Could see plenty of fast-moving bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass and not quite as fast along the sides of the glass. Excellent foamy spotty lacing. Excellent foamy retention. (Sight - 4.50)

Smelled lime, Strata, bubblegum, mixed berry, melon, floral, pine, white bread, hay and grass. A little better out of the can with some early pilsner malt added. (Smell - 4.00)

Tasted almost as good as the nose. In order got Strata, lime, apple, pear, mixed berry, floral, pine, black pepper, spicy Chinook, wood, white bread, hay, grass, mango and earthy pilsner malt. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Abrupt, dry, spicy finish. (Feel - 3.75)

Unfortunately not as good as I was hoping for with a Burgeon beer. Still very good overall but not something I’d need to have again. (Overall - 4.00)
