Things were getting a bit squirrely over here; it must be the trays upon trays of macadamia nuts we hand-roasted for this beer. Some would say we’ve gone nuts – but taking our time over each and every step is part of what makes every one of our craft brews unique.

We love a good brown ale, and we’re certain you’ll love this one too, from the rich nutty flavor, to the luxurious dark brown color.

Brewed with real macadamia nuts toasted in our own kitchen along with top quality malts and hops, we hope you’ll join us in raising a glass.

440ml can from SuperValu, Bundoran, Athlone (€3.09):
Translucent reddish-brown with a thin, quarter cm head that's an off-white & slightly patchy towards one end before eventually disappearing. The nose opens with a bitty aroma, some sweet praline/macadamia notes & earthy malts alongside caramel & light chocolates. The taste is sweeter still, lots of caramel & macadamia flavours with a little chocolate & subtle earthy flavours but it's relatively light overall.

440 ml can, from KWM Wines & Spirits. ABV is 5.5%. Deep reddish brown colour, large to moderate off-white to beige head. Distinct aroma of brown malts and roasted macadamia nuts, a hint of silage. Smooth mouthfeel. Pleasant flavour of nuts and brown malts, not too sweet, hints of prunes and earthy hops, easy drinking.

Pours a deep brown amber. Mild aroma. Big roasted malt body. Nutty finish. Almost smokey. A little thin but it has good flavor. A solid brown ale.

look: three finger foamy off white head with very good retention, beer is a lovely brown mahogany colour, good levels of carbonation running up the beer.

smell: big malty flavours, almost meaty, certainly nutty, lot of chocolate, dark chocolate, hint of dark fruit maybe, fig and prune, not overly aromatic but inviting.

taste: quite nice, malt driven beer again, roasted smokey meaty malt flavour, those nutty macadamia flavours are there but not too apparent, light bit of caramel, lot of milk going on dark chocolate, rather earthy, light to medium bitterness on the finish, not bad.

feel: light bodied, light to medium carbonation, thin enough, definitely watery in parts, although very drinkable, lingering bitterness on the back of the tongue.

overall: a decent ale, nothing remarkable although it’s nice enough to drink, just a bit too thin to be great, flavours are there tho.

Served on tap into a 16 oz (473 ml) conical pint glass at Growlers in Tuckahoe, NY.
A: Pours a somewhat hazy, brown color with a one finger, tan head, cap retention, and complex rings, sheets really, of lacing.
S: Aromas of molasses, unsweetened baker’s chocolate, new leather, white pepper, and macadamia nuts.
T: More semisweet than semidry, flavors derive from the aroma profile, plus a dose of cola. Solid, but subtle bitterness.
M: Light to medium bodied with moderate effervescence.
O: Mac Nutty is a delicious, imported American style Brown Ale. Usually love this style and cannot believe it isn't more popular.

it's a brown ale and it's brown colour so it gets top marks for that. It smells like the smell you get from a jar of nutella juuust after you break the seal... That brings me back to a simpler time so top marks there too. It tastes like I imagine a twiggy, nutty, mossy handful of forest floor would taste but in a good way. It's a bit watery, but beer is mostly water so I don't know what I'm complaining about. Still knocking it down for feel because watery sounds bad. This beer is fantastic. It's better than the brown ale that Rye River do for Lidl and that is high praise indeed.
