Imperial Chocolate Mud Cake Pastry Stout 9.2%
Chocolate Ox is inspired by our love of chocolate Mud Cake. Everything about this stout screams Chocolate with a heavy, creamy, intense and dark chocolate flavour. Brewed using Cholaca & conditioned on Kilbeggan Cocoa Nibs & Just enough Milk sugar added in for a Sweet pastry flavor.

I don't see a date code listed on the label or the can, but from the rim on the bottom: "L20107/108"
Appearance: The body is a very dark brown, to a point where it is mostly black in the glass. It has a medium-sized light khaki head that is creamy textured and fluffy on some parts of the surface. It has pretty good retention and minimal lacing.
Aroma: A distinct ale yeast aroma comes through before approaching the glass. It has a slightly metallic, heavily kilned grain aroma. There is a light note of chocolate syrup scent as well.
Taste: Up front there is a prominent chocolate flavor with a light bit of toasted marshmallow. Towards the middle of the tongue there is a little more of this toasted marshmallow flavor which is pleasant. Alcohol comes through near the back of the tongue. There is a mild roasted bitter coffee flavor in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: It has a nice smooth body which is very pleasant to drink. Carbonation feels good. There is a light bitterness to the beer from the grain.
Overall: It is a pleasantly enjoyable beer with a nice chocolate flavor and notes of toasted marshmallow. The label states that this is an "IMPERIAL CHOCOLATE MUDCAKE STOUT"and that it is a "STOUT BREWED WITH CHOLACA AND COCOA NIBS." There is an actual chocolate syrup smell to the beer so it is interesting that the Cholaca comes through on the nose. The chocolate flavor in the beer is very nice. The label also states that it is "9.2% ALC BY VOL" and the alcohol definitely shows up but it can be expected with such a high ABV. It's not a detractor but it is worth mentioning. As a whole the beer is enjoyable and it would be great at a campsite with some smores. I would drink it again from time to time and I would recommend it to people who aren't overly sensitive about beers that might have more alcohol present.
