A Pretentious Glass Company snifter hosted this black beer with a short-lived, quarter inch of fine golden-brown head. Over time, a ring and small island is all that is left of the head. A viscous film falls quickly.
The bourbon aroma is sweet, punctuated by dates. Warmth brings out strong plum pudding.
Sweetness is mild, with mocha that leans heavily towards cappuccino. Rich dark chocolate works well with the roasted malt that is strong and has a mild bitterness. Also found are figs and surprisingly mild bourbon. The finish is long and rich with what might be considered habanero building as it warms.
Tara has a full body that is just short of dense. Its texture is similar to whipped cream. Carbonation adds a light, prickly sensation that compliments a mild burn from the alcohol. Light syrupy sugar builds on the lips with each sip.
This is a Wow beer. It is strong with bold flavors and not shy of heat. I think it is a great nightcap to be savored slowly.

12 oz can
Deepest of brown before turning black. Mocha colored head, decent retention with light lacing.
Nose is decadent with date, plum, caramel, and a moderate brandy barrel note.
Flavor follows the nose with the caramel dialing back and making more way for the fruit notes.
Mouthfeel is thick enough for style, maybe a tad more. Really a hug for the palate.
