Pours a very dark amber color with a finger width foamy head. Retention is mild. Lacing is decent. Slightly smokey aroma with dark fruit and a little banana sweetness. The taste is balanced with mild smokiness and sweet banana. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

I feel like there are some major discrepancies with this one in regards to color, some have an amber brown to a bronze color. The one I poured out was a very clear yellow golden color, very thin head that dissipates into a thin ring around the glass. There's a mildly sweet smokey aroma to it, citrus fruits and wheat grass, not bad overall. It's pretty smooth overall and easy to drink. The smokiness really comes out in the aftertaste, sweet and mildly bitter up front, but it does have a nice semi full bodies feel as it hits the back of your mouth. I gave it a "2" in look because of the description on the can whici does state it is a dark special, but this could be a misunderstanding...

12 Days of Christmas #6

Beer number 6 from Aldi Australia's 2023 Christmas Beer pack, courtesy of Kalea. I'm not doing these beers in order. I'm half way through this 12-pack now, and I must admit this is probably the one beer I'm truly excited about. I've Never had a smoked beer before, and I have a feeling I'll enjoy the style so Super keen to check this one out.

Vessel: 500ml Pint can, best before March 2025.

Appearance: Expected it to be a little darker. Light golden tropical XPA in colour, especially with the slight haze to the beer. Thin white head disappated to a ring.

Aroma: Not super smokey, but definetly a sweet smokiness emanates. There's a sharp citrus bitterness, and a slight vanilla essence beneath it all, which could be mistaken for candied bannana. After the third or fourth pass on the nose the smokiness seems to have disappeared, replaced by the candied bannana-vanillary-ness.

Taste: No smoke on the taste unfortunately, but a very malty vanilla, bordering on candied bananna flavour. There's a light citrus bitterness underneath the sweetness, but it's there almost as an afterthought.

Feel: Light to medium body, decently carbonated.

Overall: A little disappointed that the smokiness was virtually non-existant, but it's not bad. Some decent flavours and aromas to make for an interesting taste.

Pours an amber brown, off white head. It's not especially smokey on the nose, maybe in wisps, kinda has a smoked gouda aroma. Maybe some charcoal peat too. This isn't overly smokey or peaty or meaty. There's touches of it, but it's light and easy drinking. It kind of has a charcoal malt character to go with subtle elements of those flavors. While not my favorite smoked beer, this is definitely my favorite of the German beer 12 pack I got.

Clear bronze body with a fat finger of mushroom colored bubble head. Smell features euro sweet malt with flowers, bready grain but no smoke. Euro sweet malt with plum, oxidized flowers, and a touch of smoke in the earthy and bready grain. Feel is smooth and malty the whole way besides a faint hop kiss of a finish, no smoke character. Felt like it was caught in between styles

APPEARANCE: Deep, dark amber with nice off-white suds and just a little lacing.

NOSE: Malty caramel.

TASTE: Roasty, sweet, almost smoky somehow. I get notes of fruit and smoke, with some hops coming around at finish. A well-rounded, tasty, and unique beer. Enjoyed!

Pours clear golden, minimal carbonation rising. Has a 1-finger creamy white head which dissipates quickly.

Aroma is sweet and grainy

Taste of malt, sweetness and it did not have the smokiness that was expected. Strange.

Mouthfeel is medium/light. Moderately cleansing.

Overall, OK. Sessionable.

500ml can, stange, expires March 2024.

It’s golden, surprisingly, as the can says “dark special”. Golden with a towering cream head.

Bread, pale malt, hint of cooked veggies. No smoke.

Full hearty malt flavors. Pale malt, barley, fresh bread. Green hop and very clean yeast.

Moderate body and carbonation.

It’s a nice beer, but I second another reviewer that’s there’s nothing smoked about it.

Pours a strong 1" head that is brownish amber in color.
Fruity grain aroma with Smoke and hops in the background.
Bread taste followed by a smokey, spicey hop taste.
Medium mouthfeel that has notes of spice, caramel and malt.
Medium carbonation taste but has great lacing and head retention.
A great smoked beer, not to astringent of a smoke flavor with great balance of grain and hops.

Poured from a can.

Appearance - Amber red body with a few foamy bubbles for head.
Smell - Very minimal; some smokiness and malts.
Taste - Mild smoke, water
Feel - Medium body, lower carbonation
Overall - Great color, but overall just to subdued a beer in my opinion.

Poured from can into tulip, scant 1/2 finger light tan head, so so retention and lacing. Rubyish/amber in the glass, crystal clear to look at, some light passes thru. Malt and subtle smoke on the nose, if this is a rauchbier, then they used a subtle hand with the smoked malt, overall good nose. Sweet malt on the palate, followed by a wisp of smoke (as it warms, it becomes more predominate) and then the dark fruits come into play, raisin & plum. It finishes with a slight bitterness, just enough to keep it crisp and to aid in drinkability (from my perspective). Overall a rather easy drinker
