Cold IPA / IPL brewed in honor of the Lookout Wild Film Festival
Look:
Pours a golden yellow, with highlights of orange and a slight haze. Generates a one finger head of rocky/sparse foam that laces the glass quite well.
Aroma:
Suntan lotion, orange juice, honeydew and mango. A touch of pepper and heat from the alcohol.
Taste:
Mellow and fruity with a back end earthy bitterness. Upfront succulent orange juice and sweet pineapple jam. Goes malty mid palate with mild notes of banana muffin. Long aftertaste of grassy, bitter hops and a soothing alcoholic warmth from the 7% abv. As it warms, more pronounced flavors of guava and granola come into shape.
Feel:
Moderate carbonation, mid weight density and mouthfeel.
Overall:
Mixed style beers like these are always hard for me to rate, but I think this is definitely a solid cold IPA. It's a little too on the sweet side for my palate, especially considering it's fairly bubbly and decently light on the tongue - not to say there isn't any bitter hop influence but it's mostly on the finish. The high ABV, although endearing and pleasant, makes it a bit too much for more than one in a single sitting. Oddly enough I think this is a great beer to pair with almost any type of pub food.
