St. Amandus was a Belgian monk famous for hospitality: he became the patron saint of brewers, bartenders, and innkeepers. With hints of banana, pear, and cloves, this is our toast to a great man in a great beermaking region!

had it on tap on location in a tulip
pours a straw pale yellow gold with a white head that has minimal retention and leaves little lacing as it settles to a halo
aroma is honeyed pear, clove, and bubblegum
taste follows the nose, with banana coming into the mix. biggest thing that jumps out oddly is the bubblegum/rock candy.
mouthfeel: moderately high carbonation and medium body. carbo prickles and booze heat throughout, though it mostly feels pillowy. finishes slightly dry and bitter.
overall:
pretty middle of the road for a Belgian pale, but it's still solid and offers a "greatest hits" medley for those hankering for a Belgian amidst the other Lazarus offerings. lots of clove and bubblegum notes on this one, and it's not too sweet or too boozy. the balance can be appreciated coming from such a "baby" of a brewery that doesn't have the benefit of an ancient recipe.

32oz canned 10-4-20, purchased at the brewery. Opened 12-12-20.
GABF Gold Medal Winner - 2017.
1 finger white head, falls and retains well at a solid cap.
Apple juice golden with great clarity and festive bubbles floating slowly topside. Thin, wispy lacing.
Fruity/floral esters, slightly spicy, yeast, honey, and fermentation.
Baked apple, pears in juice, baking spices, light clove spice, honey sweetness.
Light body, low-plus carbonation. Some sweet and heat in a medium length off-dry finish.
May have lost some pizazz in the can, will plan to revisit.
Between Good and Very Good.

Tough crowd in Austin - surprised this is not rated higher!
This beer is amazing light and refreshing for a Belgian Strong Ale. Taste and smell are bright and fresh. Smell of pears and candied orange. Taste includes banana and some cloves. Went great with the spicy Mexican torta that is served there. Nice smooth feel. Again, surprising beer for a high ABV beer!
