A Red India Pale Ale made with flaked rye. A rich, ruby coloring and a balanced taste. Bready malt flavor with a lightly spicy finish. Notes of orange peel, floral, herbal, lemon and grapefruit.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a dark orange brown with a fine, two finger light khaki head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of mild biscuit malt with a little caramel, red berries, citrus hops, toffee. Flavor is mild caramel malt, dark and red berries, rye, citrus hops, lemon citrus. Finishes with biscuit malt and light rye tartness, leaving a woody aftertaste. Medium bodied with light creaminess. An interesting red ale, labelled as a "red rye IPA", but the profile is much closer to a classic red ale, hopped a little more than typical, but with a distinct rye flavor and light tartness. The finish is a little uneven with the rye dominating after a start that is very much like a hoppy red ale. The hop profile is subdued for an IPA, perhaps because there is enough going on with the rye and solid malt body. Kind of all over the place, but interesting and with a great supporting malt background. Great label.
