somehow still no category for mexican lager here on BA, this is decidedly that, not an american lager, and its solid, if a little samey and simple, which a lot of their more drinkable yellow type beer was when we visited last weekend. this likely has a little corn in it, its got that faint grainy sweetness in aroma and in the center of the taste, but the whole thing is light and easy. to me its got less from both the yeast and the hops than the best of these do, no bitterness at all but not real citrus pop either, and nothing fruity from the yeast either, the lager yeast almost seems more european than the strains i like best in this style, and this is one of the few that i might actually welcome a lime in. its mellow and its easy drinking, but its not very exciting. i think the lagering is patient and its clean, so that really is what makes this. some minerals underneath the pale malt, good carbonation which is critical in this style, and a fast finish. drinkable, but not one of the more exciting beers they had on tap here, a bit more from the hops would set this off a little more and i think ramp up the refreshment value too. i love this style, especially in hot weather, not sure why it still hasnt been added to BA...
