Appearance: Pours tea colored with a solid one finger head; good retention and spotty lacing
Smell: Toasted brown bread with just a hint of toffee
Taste: Toasted brown bread forward with a touch of toffee emerging; earthy hops emerge, after the swallow, with the finish being slightly bitter and rather dry
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: I don't see many Alts out there and while this one is pretty good, it doesn't have the subtle dark fruit sweetness I love with Uerige's beers; come to think of it, I haven't seen any of them in a long time

16 oz taps at the brewery.
L: Pours deep ruby mahogany brown with light & fine steady carbonation, a frothy 1/2" light tan head that slowly recedes to thick edge foam, thick skeletal lacing with a few loose banding lines. SRM 19 or there abouts.
S: Toasted caramelized malts, lightly floral, a hint of toffee, dark roasted grains, a hint of brown bread.
T: Gently sweet dark toasted caramel malts, light background dark fruits, a slight hop bite, brown bread, lightly floral, a bit earthy. Has a pleasant toasty aftertaste.
F: Slightly crisp and bright with a clean medium-bodied feel, a soft middle and a clean medium-length finish.
O: Great tasting, easy drinking. Would love this paired with grilled fish, meats & cheeses. I've had other examples in this style that are lighter in color, crunchy and sweet. Utepils Alt 1848 is lighter bodied, toastier and has a lovely color. I find this beer to be excellent in its style.

From a 16oz can:
Appearance: Clear amber, big head.
Smell: Bready, spicy.
Taste: Bready, spicy--rye-like character, mild sweetness. Medium bodied.
Overall: Picked up the winter mix pack from Utepils as I've wanted to try more of their stuff. This alt is solid, nice bready spiciness to it, not too heavy but not too light. Nice winter beer.

16oz can
Ruby-orange with a ring of foam. Smells of caramel malt, slight clove and allspice. The tasty is a bready, nutty, well-hopped brown ale, more of a "Sticke Alt", maybe.
I loved this beir

Disclaimer: The date on this beer is a 18 months ago so it is presumably a year and a half old...
Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brownish amber color like a dark whiskey. A small white head. SRM of 19. (3.75)
Aroma: Aromas of flower & molasses. Relatively light and clean on the nose surprisingly. (3.50)
Flavor: Flavors of flower, wet tire, molassess, fresh oil. Finishes relatively cleaner than I expected. Sort of reminds me of a tire store. (3.50)
Feel: Lighter bodied. Flat. Clean on the palate. I suspect due to the age of the beer. (3.25)
Overall: Due to the age of this beer my review is probably biased because the beer was about a year and a half old. Wet tire and molasses. The flower quality was quickly lost which I suspect would normally be stronger. It was flat tire and molasses. Would like to try it fresh sometime. (Final Rating: 3.39)

Had on tap. Clear copper body, lots of tan lacing. Smell brings on the caramel, nuts, yeast, malts, and herbal hops. Taste is precise in the balance, leading to classical flavoring with high drinkability. Has some amber ale influence in the aftertaste too. Well made and well balanced altbier.

Pours a dark nutmeg brown. Crystal clear. Thin tan head dissipates steadily leaving a thin ring of tan foam along the outside of the beer. Some sticky lacing is left along the glass
Aroma is quite nutty and malty with some grainy notes. Very earthy aroma overall.
Taste has notes of grain, malts, earthy nuts, and a light hoppy bitterness on the finish.
Feel is light and drinkable with mild carbonation.
Overall a very nice Altbier - does an admirable job sticking to the traditional German style and in doing so is very well done.

Really nice Altbier. Great balance, strong German pils and Munich flavors. Extremely drinkable. Well done.

Pours a darker amber color. Fairly clear. Slightly off white frothy head. 2 finger. Retention is average, and some lacing on the glass.
The nose is minimal. I do get a slight malt, but not much else.
Taste - A lot more presant than the nose. It's got a nice malt flavor. Some fruit flavors. Some crispness on the backside.
Feel is a lot more full bodied that I'd expect from the ABV. Crisp feeling that lingers on the backside.
Damn nice beer. Fun to drink.
