Really great aromatics; definitely getting a sort of tart sweetness from the berries, and the subtle but noticeable earthy quality from the nuts, something similar to a macadamia.
On the pour, and once allowed to open up, definitely hit with a wave of oxidation. Needed 3-5 mins in the glass before I was getting the same nose as I was straight out of the bottle. Once warmed a bit, getting hazelnut, dried cranberry, dried cherry, a hint of raisin, and dark chocolate.
Viscosity is great; initial oxidation note that subsides almost immediately but still lingers in the background; replaced by a chocolatey base balanced with notes of dried red berries & Nutella. Finishes with hints of subtly bitter nuttiness and barrel warmth. I thought it was very well done to have the dried berry component present in flavor, but without imparting the tartness that you would get from fresh fruit.
Released June of 2021 and rum barrels are a bitch so the oxidation is to be expected. Good job with it overall; that said, would’ve loved to get more
Coconut. Could’ve just been a component that faded over the last year and a half.
Continues to improve with temp; really starts to develop into something very similar to those Brookstone dark chocolate covered fruit candies.
