“Brazilian Eagle’s Speed” is an Amburana Barrel Aged Imperial Stout coming in at 13.2% ABV. It spent 27 months in the most expensive wood on the planet. This was my first time using these types of barrels, but certainly not my last. Next time my barrel connection is Brazil gets more, I will definitely grab as many as I can. These beautiful barrels cost nearly $3,000 each after shipping, which is twelve to fifteen times the amount of a standard bourbon barrel these days. I love the character of the wood, it reminded me of a mild cigar dipped in coconut. The Stout took on deep woody notes, vanilla, marzipan, brown sugar, milk chocolate, and samoa cookie flavors from this unique wood.

Opaque black body with a brown head. Aromas of the amburana with earthy spice and cinnamon accents meeting roasted malt stout, with residual marzipan, baker's chocolate and booze. Taste is a problem. It tastes like a diaper dipped in amburana booze, very hot and the wood feels out of sorts as a compliment, hint of smoke too. Feel is hot and roasted more than the wood is felt, which is less than ideal. Hard pass on this one, waste of money

Had a small brown head swirl but then flat, kinda scary. Looked thick.

Not much smell other than thick and brown.

Taste was chocolately, mix of dark and light, but with something else - must have been the amburana wood - that added a lot. But here’s the but - I can’t say I liked it.

Feel - had kind of a tingle, again, maybe related to the taste of the wood, but who knows.

Overall - I’d take bourbon BA any day of the week over this wood. It was nice to try, but at $50 for 12 oz, not worth it even to try.
