How do you make the rich flavors of maple syrup even tastier? If you're Kyle Harrop of the legendary Horus Aged Ales, the answer is simple: you make beer, and double barrel age that bad boy! For Greatestest Maple, he started with a decadent Stout base and aged it in brandy barrels for 32 months, then aged it in Blanton's bourbon barrels for an additional 18 months. And then he finished it all on four times the maple syrup!

I decided to try this side by side with my current favorite maple stout - Equilibrium Barrel Aged Maple Dream Dessert
Look - Pours a solid black color with almost no head that immediately disappears. Nice lacing when swirled!
Smell - Maple. Nothing else really - just maple.
Taste - More maple. Maybe a nice light hint of bourbon. It's very nice - on par with the Maple Dream Dessert.
Feel - Nicely creamy, but feels just a tad stronger than 11.6%ABV.
Overall - A really super maple stout (maple usually isn't my favorite stout flavor), but in this case I slightly prefer the Equilibrium.
