Well it’s been a while, but we’re finally getting back to (in my opinion) the kings of Wild Ale in Massachusetts, Springdale! It’s been a long time since I took a trip up there, but this weekends trip brought many old favorites and exciting new choices. This one is a golden sour back blended with pineapple juice which sounds strange but I can get on board with. Let’s pop it open and see what it has to offer
Pours a cloudy pale gold with a finger of white head that very quickly fades to a thin ring and leaves minimal lacing
Holy funk, the nose here is tart and funky, yet somehow balanced by the acidity of the pineapple juice rather than being intensified by it. I’m picking up on aromas of lemon yogurt, old leather, tangy pineapple juice, vinegar, sharp oak, jammy peach, white pepper, and crackery malt
It’s even more cohesive in taste, and really reminds you that this beer first, and pineapple juice second. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting white wine, lemon zest, sharp oak, juicy pineapple, crackery malt, and dried apricot. The swallow brings notes of bright white grape, smooth oak, juicy pineapple, doughy malt, leather, and tannic white wine
A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a zippy and refreshing beer. Finishes a bit too sticky for my taste, but it doesn’t hurt the drinkability too much
This one was pretty varied as a whole experience, but I still think it was solid. Far from their best, but still worth a try it you’re into this sort of thing
