473 mL can from the brewery; dated Mar 3 2024 and served slightly chilled. Reviewed from notes taken in autumn 2024.
Pours an effervescent pale straw yellow colour with some chill haze; situated atop is one finger of sudsy, fizzy white head that sizzles off within ninety seconds or so. A frothy collar and thin cap last a bit longer, but there's not a lot of lace production - looks normal for a light lager. Gritty, grainy aroma of bready pale malts and white tortilla, with shades of grassy, weakly lemony hops.
Pretty tasty for a light lager. It has a bready sourdough flavour, with hints of tortilla and grainy sweetness also coming through; hints of lemony hops and grassy hay round out the back end. Dry conclusion. Light in body, with lively carbonation that adds a firm, crisp bite to this lager's thin, smooth mouthfeel. Good drinkability, though if you were drinking these one after another, I could see bloat becoming an issue.
Final Grade: 3.65, a B grade. Logger Lager is a decent light beer - nothing to get excited about, of course, but it's certainly more flavourful than the macro alternatives. If I lived in the Woodstock area, I would probably buy this on occasion to support the local guys. Honestly, even though it's a forgettable brew in a boring style, Logger is still one of the higher-quality Upper Thames products that I've tried so far. Worth a try if you're looking for a basic, lighter craft lager for weekend swillin'.
