On cask at the brewpub.

The beer pours an orange-amber color with a white head. The aroma is what you would expect from an ESB. I get a lot of orange citrus notes, but it is very well balanced with the toffee malt. The flavor isn't quite as fruity as the aroma. In addition to the strong toffee malt character, I get some grassy hops and a little bit of orange. Low bitterness and very easy to drink. Medium mouthfeel and low carbonation. A nice, easy drinking ESB that at 5.9 percent ABV, you can drink more than one of.

A: Pours with good clarity. A reddish/orange color. A one and a half finger white head forms with excellent retention. Rings of sticky lace is left behind.
S: A soft fruity aroma up front. Apples and pears. Lots of biscuit malt. Citrus hops. Really well balanced.
T: Bright hops up front. Citrus and floral flavors. Soft fruity ester again. Apples and pears that follow the nose. Sweet caramel malt with some bread and biscuit. Just excellent.
M/D: A medium to full body. So creamy and smooth. This is like silk. So easy to drink. All day with this one.

An excellent and authentic ESB. This is rare to come by, and on cask no less. Hands down the best American version of this English classic that I have had.

Not sure why this is listed as "retired"; I just had some at the Draughthouse last night.

The beer is a clear reddish color with a small white head that breaks into a thin lace very quickly. Nice color. Smells a lot like Fuller's ESB to me, which is a good thing.

Nice and bitter, not too strong, not much alcohol flavour. Definitely woody but not smoky, and finishes with plenty of hops. The mouth feel is good, not sticky and not quite watery-thin.

Just as good as most mass-distributed ESBs I've tried. I was impressed with this; one of Draughthouse's better house-brewed beers I think.

Not sure why this is listed as retired, but most likely a mistake...

Rich Maroon amber color with a bit of off-white head, and lacing . Smell was a nice mix of hops, sweet honey like malt, and a touch of biscuity, yeast smell as it warmed. Taste was a good hop bitterness, but not excessive, with a nice touch of sweetness in the middle followed by a lasting mild bitterness. Fairly easy drinking and a decent beer all around. Worth a try if you like the style, for sure.

Appearance: Crystal-clear copper color, with a scattering of white foam, slight broken lace, and mild carbonation.

Aroma: Strong caramel malt notes, spicy hop notes, and a slight mineral quality.

Taste: Toasted and caramel malts at the open, followed by chocolate, actually more like bitter cocoa, and a distinct character of wood late in the taste. Finishes with a lingering medicinal hop note.

Mouth feel: Smooth and full, quite pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: Well-made example of the style, quite drinkable.

Sampled at the Draught House on Saturday, October 14th, 2006.
