Drank from a 1 quart [32 fl oz] crowler purchased at Alvarium Beer Company, New Britain, CT
Date 12.12.19
Served in a tulip
Thanks to my cousins Anne and Bill for this thoughtful Christmas gift.
Gorgeous appearance. A fluffy, three-finger tall, bright white plume rose above the hazy, marigold yellow body. The head slowly dropped to a thick, bubbly mass. A patchy wall of lacing coated the glass and stuck around until the drink’s end.
The aroma was really hoppy and bold. Big stone fruit notes. Ripe peach came through strong. Tropical fruits were also apparent. Mango specifically. Bit of guava too. Moderately sweet. Some honey-like malt character was noticeable. There was a slightly floral quality as well. Touch of citrus.
The flavor profile contained a nice melding of citrus, stone fruits and tropical notes. Orange and tangerine came through big time. Somewhat tart and tangy. Mango and guava were noticeable too. Ripe peach was present as well. Crisp, wheaty and lemony in the center. More citrus and citrus peel on the back end and the finish. Notes of pithy white grapefruit lingered after the swallow. Hint of bitterness.
The mouthfeel was somewhat thinner bodied for the style and contained a fairly subtle effervescence. Perhaps a touch watery initially. As the beer moved along the palate, the liquid turned creamy, soft and smooth. Solid.
I recall trying some beers by Alvarium a few years ago that missed the mark, but this NEIPA was very impressive. It seems like they definitely found their groove.

On tap at Alvarium. Pours a haz pale yellowish orange with half an inch of head. Lots of lacing. Not much of a nose. Light citrus hops but not much else. The taste has the citrus but a bit more fruit flavor. Pineapple and guava as well as some toasted malts. Guava and malt finish. Moderate alcohol presence. Light to medium body with a slightly dry mouthfeel.

Appearance – Thin ring of head atop a slightly hazy yellow body.
Aroma – Mostly strong citrus hops, but there was a little bit of funkiness too.
Taste – Citrus and pineapple that complimented each other well. Quite bitter.
Mouthfeel – Refreshing and thirst-quenching, smooth and not too puckering.
Overall – Not sure what I expected from the name but this was a great example of the style.
