Loaded with 30lbs of wildflower honey and aged in a mix of 2 and 10-year Litchfield Bourbon barrels for 6 months, our English barleywine tastes of mild booze, bourbon, vanilla, oak, toffee, caramel, honey and biscuit. A sipper for sure.

Sampling a cellar temp 750ml bottle poured into my snifter. The beer was purchased at the brewery.
The beer pours a clear chestnut color with a foamy beige head of 3 cm rising up and fading to a sturdy surface layer and some tight lattice on the edges.
The aroma is rich and malty with caramel, toffee, brown sugar and some dark fruit. The fruit is plums and raisins and also allows a little bit of a nutty and crackery note to shine through. No hops anywhere, and I dont get hints of the booze either.
First sip reveals an average body with fine, but spacious carbonation. The texture is smooth and the beer is easy to drink.
Flavor is all malt as well, with caramel and toffee mixing with some brown sugar and again a bit of dark fruit with plums dominant. The hops make no presence here and the booze is well hidden. This flavor mix isnt overly robust and is decently complex and definitely English. A pretty solid B-wine from a nice brewery here in Connecticut. Glad I had the chance to try this one.

This is a nice Barleywine from Alvarium. The color is a deep brown with slight carbonation and the bourbon is strong on the nose. Sweet, but not overly sickly sweet. True to the style and a great offering from this up-and-coming brewery out of New Britain, Connecticut.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
