Alvarium Beer Company

Really interesting beer. Had it on tap at Kinsmen Brewing as one of their guest beers. It's a smoked helles, which is really cool- something you don't see much. The taste is oddly sweet at first- tastes like honey. You also definitely get the smokey taste which is just awesome. The mix of honey and smokey taste was really tasty, but I still just couldn't help but feel as if something was missing. The sweetness and smoke were so contrasted that this beer tasted a bit like a mix of beers rather than one cohesive brew; it's not quite a honey-infused lager nor is it a smoke beer as well. I feel a bit more bittering could help bridge the gap between the sweet and smokey flavors; also, a more malty presence could help compliment the smoke if done subtly enough.

Overall though, really interesting beer that I haven't been able to stop thinking about. Gotta make a trip to Alvarium and get some!
