Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Alvarium Beer Company, New Britain, CT
Served in a tulip
Thanks to my sister Vanessa for grabbing me a few cans of this.
Wow, what an attractive looking beer. It poured a shade of bright pink that reminded me of ruby red grapefruit juice. A frothy, finger-tall, bright white crown with just a hint of pink to it rose above the body, but it quickly dissolved. One lone streak of lacing clung to the side of the glass.
The aroma was pleasant but fairly nondescript initially. Subtle tropical fruit notes were detectable. Passionfruit was most prominent. Hint of mango too. A dry, powdery yeasty note was also perceivable, but it disappeared when the head dissolved. As the beer sat, the nose became significantly more pronounced. The passionfruit really intensified. Guava notes were also apparent. Touch of berry (strawberry?) character too.
The flavor profile was similar to the nose, though it did not improve with time. Passionfruit again was most apparent. Other tropical fruit characteristics were detectable, but I had a difficult time picking out any of them specifically. Perhaps some guava and mango. A nice lemony quality appeared in the center and intensified as the beer moved along the palate. The was a hint of rind-like pith and bitterness after the swallow.
The mouthfeel was definitely the most forgettable aspect of the beer. It was fairly thin in body and quite flat. I would not be remiss to call the beer “watery.”
Aloha Punch is a nice light and refreshing fruited kettle sour that hits the spot on a hot summer day. Be sure to give this some time to open up, as the nose seemed to really improve with time.
