Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Alvarium Beer Company, New Britain, CT
Served in a tulip
Thanks to my sister Vanessa for grabbing me a few cans of this.
The beer poured a hazy, deep purple hue that might be best described as plum or perhaps blueberry. A frothy, finger-tall, bone white crown with just a hint of purple to it rose above the body, but it quickly dropped to a thin dollop of foam. Streaks of lacing cascaded along the sides of the glass.
The aroma was impressive and definitely reminded me of a blueberry cake donut. Sweet, juicy blueberry notes came through strong. A cake-y, pastry-like note was apparent as well. Good dose of cinnamon and vanilla too. As the beer warmed, the cinnamon and the vanilla mellowed and some tartness from the blueberry appeared.
The flavor profile was disappointing. Blueberry was apparent again, but it seemed a lot more tart here. Baking spice notes appeared in the center. Hint of lemony tartness. A big, earthy bitterness came through as well and intensified on the back end and in the finish. More blueberry was noticeable too.
The mouthfeel was solid. Medium-full bodied for the style. The liquid contained a fine, zippy effervescence that turned super fluffy and smooth on the palate.
Although this beer smelled great, the flavor profile was oddly bitter. I am not sure if this was due to the cinnamon, the hops or both.
