Deceptively dark in color for such a smooth and easy drinking brew. Extremely light roast notes keep it interesting for repeated consumption at any time of year.

16oz can into a pokal.
L: SRM 37 Pours almost black with a 1" light beige head that has very good retention, medium-low carbo, medium webbed sticky lacing.
S: Darkly roasted grains, a very light and distant dark fruit note, dry flowers, caramel malts.
T: Toasted grains, a dark fruity note, plum, cocoa, burnt toast char, bitterness that is fairly resinous, gently tart overall. Grapefruit zest as well in the lingering finish.
F: Lightly brisk, wet & even, medium-light bodied feel with a medium-long fairly dry and drying finish. Becomes even drier with warming.
O: Tasty, fairly smooth and easy drinking. The finish is dry with well-placed dry cocoa notes. The hop bill is subtlety fruity. Light feel with a slightly bold taste that whisks itself away. It is outstanding in its style.

16oz can. No dating information found.
Deep brown colored body, and it appears to be clear. Light tan head and this persists as a cap and high ring. Webs of lacing.
Aroma of roasted malts which give off dark roast coffee and a little caramel/vanilla.
Taste is slightly sweet but mostly bitter from the roasted malts that have flavors of dark roast coffee. Hints of dark chocolate, dark berry, and vanilla. The bitterness continues into the aftertaste.
Medium mouthfeel. Clean finish. Very good carbonation.
More bitter than sweet but the sweetness is not overwhelmed. Flavors remain in the mouth for a long time (roasted malts, coffee, and some chocolate).

From a 16oz can with no date on the can.

This is a dark brown pouring beer. There's amber hues shining through the glass when I hold it to the light. The beer has a 1 finger tan colored head. The head has great retention and some damn sticky looking lacing on the glass.
The aroma is nice and roasted. I get a hint of a nuttiness to this beer. Slightly earthy smelling.
Taste - I get a great roasted nut flavor in this beer. Very malty flavored. There's a earthy flavor in here also. The finish is a bitterness that builds and is pleasing.
Smooth body, and quite full feeling. There's almost a creamy feeling to this beer.
This is damn tasty and easy to drink.

A - Pours a dark brown, nearly black opaque body, light tan head fading to a thin ring and a wispy cap. Small clusters of tiny bubble lacing.

S - Peppery spiciness, strong roasted malts, and a bit of grassiness.

T - Follows the nose, with chocolate and dark bread malts, minerality, and a mildly bitter finish.

M - Moderate weight and soft carbonation, fairly clean through the close.

O - A very nice dark brew, balanced and quite drinkable.

Appearance: Pours a slightly clear, deep brown to mostly black color with a strong tan head. SRM of 22-23. (3.75)

Aroma: Stronger Romas of bread, roasted, black, malt, some chocolate. Then comes a rich, orange and chocolate hoppiness off the end. (4.00)

Flavor: Flavors of bread, black malt, followed by a rich and sweet, orange and chocolate flavor through the middle. Finishes with an earthy, roasted black malt with a light bitterness to dry a palate. (4.00)

Feel: Medium body, sweet upfront, but dry, and slightly better off the end. (3.75)

Compared to Ayinger Dunkel 11/2023: Pours darker, similar head. Stronger aromas. More chocolate and orange hoppiness. Less earthy bread. More roast and sweetness.

to MKE Pinsetter 11/2023: Pours milder head. Milder aromas. More citrus, flower, earth. Less chocolate, black malt, roast. Flatter.

to Utepils Loonar Eclipse 12/2023: Pours darker, milder head. Stronger aromas. More dark chocolate, roast, bitterness. Less wheat, grains, earth. Darker and more roasted.

to Drekker That's a Real Nice Ski Mask 12/24: Pours identical. Less dark cherries and raspberries. More grains, cocoa, chocolate. Drier.

to Modist Pretty Metal 2/25: Pours identical, stronger aromas. More cocoa and roast. Less dark fruit. Cleaner.

Overall: A Euro Dark Lager. Nice black malt, bread, roasty flavors, with a strong hop presence of orange and chocolate. Mildly sweet, but also decently bitter. Very enjoyable. (Rating: 3.91)

16oz can

Black-brown, some bubbles. Smells like a black lager; some roast, some hops, some grain. Tastes like equal parts brownie batter and IPA, a well-hopped black lager with too much choco-sweetness for me. Why is this the trend? The lager behind the sweetness tastes 10/10

L: deep dark brown with ruby highlights under a 3/4" light tan cap with moderate retention

S: smells clean with faint chocolate, dark malts, a suggestion of coffee, a trace of fruit, and faint hops

T: starts slightly sweet with a hint of chocolate fudge brownie as the grain flavors weave together. Balanced on the finish by moderate hop accent.

F: medium body to a touch more and the carbonation is just below medium

O: a flavorful, luscious and easy to drink dark smooth lager

so i made the classic mistake of getting the adjunct (coffee) version of this first and working backwards. i should have known better. it just made me want the coffee in it, it really does seem to be missing after having it in this order, but its a quality and somewhat unique black lager nevertheless. the yeast is nice, it keeps this dry and adds a neat flavor component not commonly found in beers featuring these roasty malts. the bitterness is moderate for its color, usually it creeps a bit higher, and there is a nice cocoa note, almost a brown ale malt taste to it. lighter in body, but almost fuller bodied than the coffee one, i think a better mouthfeel here than in the coffee edition, dry in the finish and really really drinkable at this abv. a pretty ambitious pair of beers to come out with right off the bat, but they show some real competence from the brewer, and are both immediately relevant in the style on the local scene here. a faint hint of smoke for me as it winds down, a little black tea element as well, relaxed feel, solid brew!
