Pours a semi-opaque orange in color, topped with a pale tan head. Fine carbonation. Head dissipates quickly.
HUGE fruit character on the nose, with pineapple, passion fruit, and . . . peach! That’s a lot of ps in this beer, eh? Nothing in the way of hop aroma that I can detect.
On the first sip I t’s as I thought it might be, being very fruity (passion fruit and peach especially) and slightly sour/tangy. The sour aspect permeates the beer, so this is a classically sour beer even though it’s a very non-traditional Berliner Weisse. Only a very light sweetness, and the pineapple is far more pronounced on the nose.
Very easy drinking to my mind and palate, and certainly a very JUICY beer. Not sure what to pair it with (my normal Sunday night pizza and beer routine seems pretty far out of synch with this one) but maybe some lighter fare like a seafood and salad combo? If I didn’t have to work at Oh Dark Thirty I’d say “The night is young!”, and go out in search of a pairing for this, but as it is, I’ll make do with some chips and homemade mango salsa and some sharp cheddar. ; )
Reasonably fresh batch* sampled at home on a bitterly cold Sunday night in March. Come on, Springtime!
