We’ve had Kölsch on the brain with our fam at Bricksworth Beer Co., so we brewed up this preposterously approachable beer inspired by the imminently crushable pseudo-“lagers” that have been brewed in Köln, Germany for generations. This version is step mashed with our beloved Weyermann Pils, a kiss of Wheat & German Ale Yeast before cold conditioning for 7 weeks to crispy perfection. That’s Beer, Alright.

On tap at the brewery

This is a clear golden pouring beer. Tons of carbonation rising in the glass. The head is a creamy looking white head.
There is a good grain bill here in this beer. Lots of cereal aroma.
Cereal flavor. Tons of grain in here. Slight sweetness that turns bitter on the backside and lingers.
Light clean body. Crisp.
Tasty and refreshing beer.

I got a can of this beer off the single shelf from a beer store in LaCrosse, Wisconsin whilst there for my daughter's gymnastics meet. It poured a clear golden with no head and no lace. The scent had subtle grain notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with crisp malt base and grain presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a decent beer.

2022 version - 5.1% ABV

Overly hoppy, but that's me nitpicking. As it warms the floral hops recede into the sweet baked bread malts. A great Kölsch

Appearance: Pours a clear, light golden color with a minimal head. SRM of 7. (3.75)

Aroma: Moderate aromas of fruity yeast upfront with some pale malt. There's vinous and grape notes. (4.00)

Flavor: Moderate flavors of pale malts, followed by a relatively strong yeast in the middle with a grape and vinous note. Mild sweetness, but overall dry. (4.25)

Feel: Medium-bodied, strong carbonation. Finishes crisp and clean with a mild sweetness. (4.00)

Compared to Utepils Skolsch 9/25/22: Pours a lighter color, milder head. Stronger aromas. More vinous and grape notes. Less crisp, bready yeast. Slightly sweeter with less carbonation. Winner: Slightly BlackStack

Compared to Fair State Kold 6/2023: Pours similar, stronger aromas. More yeasty and fruit flavor. More robust.

Overall: A great representation of a Kolsch. Nice vinous and grape notes here without being too sweet. Remains light and clean. Flavors and body are there and this one drinks nicely. (Rating: 4.14)

16oz can into a Kolsch glass.
L: Pours a pale light transparent straw yellow with a chill haze. It has a thin fizzy head and has medium carbonation.
S: Flowers, white bread, grass, light grains.
T: Clean water, clean hops, clean malts. Lightly sweet and well hopped with some light bitterness lingering. Very bright tasting.
F: Brisk, light-bodied mouthfeel that is zippy, snappy and crisp with a fast finish. It is moderately dry and very well balanced.
O: Excellent and crushable, clean, crisp and light-bodied. Great tasting and very well balanced. Good light bitterness. I've had numerous Kolsch beers in Germany and elsewhere. This gives any good Kolsch a run for it's money. It is superb in it's style.

16oz can. No dating information found.
Clear, straw colored body, with a shimmering rising bubble show. Long lasting tight white head. Leaves a partial wall of lacing on the non drinking side of the glass.
Aroma is grassy, grainy and herbal.
Taste is malt grain and herbal hops. Mild taste quickly recedes in the aftertaste. Leaves a slight metallic feel.
Less than medium mouth feel. Crisp texture. Good carbonation.
Totally crushable in the moment but is not memorable in the moments after the quaff. Session worthy. Seems to be refreshing in the hot summer weather.

Can. White head but no lace. Clear pale straw yellow.

Grassy, earthy, light, clean. Bready, biscuity.

Such a light, crisp, easy drinking beer. Nice to see some low abv lagers by Blackstack.

Very pale golden color with a small head. Aroma of pilsner malt that is slightly grainy and cracker like. Flavor is in their words "preposterously approachable". Very, very mild flavor with a dry malt flavor. No yeast character and very light grassy hop notes. Light body and moderate carbonation that suits this beer well. It is clean I will give it that but there just is not much going on to comment on. I expected a little more flavor coming from these TIPA hazebois.
