Girdwood Brewing’s Year One Anniversary Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout.
Our first attempt at an imperial stout. We amped up the Hippy Speedball recipe (sans coffee) and increased the boil to 3 hours. The result is a velvety, chewy monster of a beer with aromas of bourbon and vanilla from the first use barrels.
Aged in Woodruff Reserve’s Single and Double Oak barrels for 2 months-1year.

Had on tap at Girdwood Brewing. Pours a very nice dark walnut pour with some garnet accents when held to light. Tan head is decent thickness on pour but quickly dissipates; no lacing /no halo. Nose has malt, bourbon, wood and vanilla. Nice!
Taste mirrors but has a distracting background bitterness. This increases as beer warms.
Body starts clean and thin but still smooth.
But as beer warms it becomes a bit syrupy.
Overall it’s a good first shot at doing BBA and ramping up an Imp Stout. Enjoyable brew. No reason to think future brews like this will not be interesting and a credit to the brew crew here.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
