Pint on tap at Tampa Bay Brewing Co. Recommended by my server, said this was her favorite.
Dark brown liquid with a thin head. Small amount of foam dissipated quickly. Smells of toasted malts maybe a little chocolate, and just enough hops to balance the sweetness. Alcohol is well hidden. Smooth and crisp, nicely carbonated throughout. Not too heavy, very drinkable, a good recommendation.

Note, just read the only other review. Obviously they have fixed up the recipe ove rhte past few years.

On tap at the brewpub.

Pours red-copper with a decent head and spotty lacing,

Aroma: faint and mild for style, even after some warming.

Flavor: Leans fairly far towards the sweet and non-smoky version of the style. Medium roasted grains with some toffee and faint dark toast.

O: a delicate version of the style with partially hidden alcohol.

First had: on tap at the brewpub in Tampa

They didn't specify a name, but I assume this is the one I had, since it definitely wasn't the Smokin' Scotsman. Copper-brown color with a slight, white head; minimal retention and lacing. Bready malts in the aroma, light brown sugar, toasted grains. About the same in the taste, nothing really interesting or distinctive going on. A little fusel alcohol in there. Light-medium body. Sort of a Scotch ale, just more watered down.

Enjoyed on cask at the brewpub. Aroma has to be sought, but its there. Reddish colour. Light lacing.Decent stuff, a malt experience, fairly run-of-the mill for the style.Cask, but a bit below average mouthfeel. A decent cask ale, without any significant carbonation.

Revisited this one at the brew pub.

A: Pours a nice shade of brown with tones of amber showing thru. Nice foamy head with good retention and lace.

S: Aroma was very malty with notes of brown sugar, molasses, and bread.

T: Very much the same as the aroma. Nice malty sweetenss with caramel, brown sugar, and molasses all making an appearence.

M: Medium in body, smooth with good carbonation.

D: Not bad but it's not their tastiest brew.

Rufous in color with an off-white head. The nose is of malt and alcohol, though neither terribly commanding.

While this ale does feature the blast of brown bread/dried fruit malt character that one would expect, I also detected some out-of-place sour apple quality in the flavor.

An off flavor note, and a lack of flavor complexity made for a somewhat disappointing experience.
