As the name would suggest this beer is sturdy. Pouring almost black with garnet highlights and a tan head that lingers, it looks just as a stout should. Aromas of roast and chocolate are bountiful with subtle fruitiness from our house ale strain. Chocolate, roast, and coffee dominate the flavor with a solid malt finish to round out this solidly built stout. Made with a collection of toasted, roasted, and crystal malts, Brickie is a brew built to stave off the winter chills and inspire holiday cheer.

12oz can poured into Duvel tulip. Picked up from the grocery store as part of a $10 sixer mixer, during the current height of the COVID pandemic. 10/19/20 printed on bottom of can. Presumably that's the born on date. So this is 2 months old. Not too bad.

Appearance - Pours black body, maybe only hints of a deep mahogany brown around the edges with a strong backlight. Pours a medium sized 2-3 finger light brown pancake batter head with amazing retention and good lacing and stick. 5

Smell - Wood. Grass. Caramel. Mallard notes. Some dry dark fruit. 4.75

Taste - Complex burst of flavor. That dark fruit up front immediately intertwined with alcohol and grassy hop astringency. The can calls it big and robust and I agree. It's a level of potency I'd expect more from an Imperial Stout. Has a bit of a harshness but its character is round and complex enough to mitigate it. 4.5

Mouthfeel - Again, a little harsh. Maybe from the alcohol and even a bit of the hop, but still balanced out enough to be fine. 3.75

Overall - Really good beer. The harshness is my only real gripe. A slight bit more balancing would have done wonders, but if you're looking for something with this kind of bite, it delivers. 4.5

Black beer with some red highlights. Small tan head.
Roasted malt and chocolate aroma.
Chocolate and coffee taste. A good deal of char.
Medium-bodied, easy to drink.
