This gem of a Pilsner is made in the Italian style, super dry, super bubbly, and supremely hoppy. Crystal and Grungeist hops were added with reckless abandon in the kettle and again for fermentation hopping. Made with Pilsner Malt from the New Mexico Malt Project, Esmerelda shines as an example of innovation within the parameters of a classic style. Citrus and herbal notes complement a dry and elegant malt profile making for a beautiful and refreshing pilsner.

Pours a nearly clear yellow color with a foamy white head. Beautiful Pilsner. The nose is loads hops aromas tha are both floral and fruity, which is exactly where the taste lands with a bit of cracker malt and a crisp, dry finish. This is really well done, IMHO, something I’d gladly revisit.

12oz can. Bottom lip is stamped for canning date as '10/05/22'.
Clear pale straw colored body. Thin wisp of a white head, which sticks around. Leaves behind webs of lacing.
Aroma of toasted malts and citrus hops.
Taste is toasted malts and citrus/herbal hops. Quick end to the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel. Crisp and dry finish. Very good carbonation.
A hoppy pilsner that is refreshing because of the dry finish.

800th beer review! 12oz can picked up at the grocery store as part of an $11 sixer mixer. 10/28/21 printed on bottom of can. So this is only 2 months old, should still be fresh.

Appearance - Slightly hazy pale straw body. Loose white head with decent to low retention, and big patchy stick. 4

Smell - Mild fresh grass, a bit of lemon rind, and honey. Seems pleasant and refreshing. 4.5

Taste - Basically the same as the nose. Everything is well balanced. 4.5

Mouthfeel - Super delicate, light, clean and refreshing. 5

Overall - Really well done. No off notes which is probably hard to pull off for a beer this delicate. 4.75

This beer was a nice surprise when I had it on tap at a local gastropub in Los Alamos, NM. As the name implies, it is hailed as an Italian pilsner, but there is no such designation in the BA beer styles list, so I chose what I chose.

In any event, I really liked this beer. It looked great: bright clear yellow color with good head and excellent curtain lacing. It smelled a bit fruity, and it had a grassy, herbal, lemony taste. It was very full bodied for a pilsner. It went great with my burger!
