west coast pils, newly on tap here at the idaho location, nice menu overall on this visit, such cool stuff in here. i didnt find this as intensely hopped and bitter as this style has been leaning lately, a little more of a patio session drinker here for the hop inclined, nice balance and kind of minimal in a way that i found refreshing. blonde, light haziness, sunny looking, average white head from the tap, racing carbonation at first but relaxing in time, aroma and flavor are fresh, less of the traditional pils elements than i think the style brings when its peaking, like there isnt really much lager yeast character to this, which i consider a key component of the base style, but in its absence the hops dont have to be enormous to stand out, and its effective and balanced in its own way, even if maybe as a normal pils without these hops there would be a little bit to be desired. the hops have soft citrus and grassy notes, a little bitter zip on the swallow, and present as rightly dosed and really at the focal point. its not exotic but its refreshing, and on one of the first nice patio days of the season, it feels right to sip on this under the warm sun, been a long time coming. cool to see more and more of the offshoot beers coming into the idaho bruery location, this fits the season well.
