Tap pour at the taproom. Served chilled in a nonic glass.
Deep amber colored body. Light tan head. Leaves behind short lacing strings.
Aroma of roasted grain malts.
Taste is sweet, along with roasted grain malt. Other flavors of apple and cherry. Aftertaste stays with the sweet grain malt note.
Medium mouthfeel. Coats the mouth and tongue. Good carbonation.
Very little bitterness, and the sweet fruit flavors that get close to medicinal.

On tap at The Other Place, Waterloo, IA; served in a shaker pint. Dark chestnut colored pour, with reddish-orange highlights and a light tan head. This is on point. Light roasted malt, a touch of char, a note of tart apple (really!), hints of cocoa and licorice, and a little hoppy and spicy bitterness round out the profile. Rather light on the mouthfeel, mostly dry finish with a hint of char lingering on the palate. Highly recommended.

On tap at the brewery after cousin’s commencement. I like the glass shape, head didn’t stay, solid flavor.

Really dark chestnut, with some orange highlights, in appearance. Very light aroma of medium heavy roasted grain, with medium dark toasted malt. Medium light flavor & body. A tangy/sour flavor, with some spiced dark malts, underlying.

An awesome standard. You can never go wrong with a Schwarz from Second State. It's definitely the lightest dark beer that you will ever drink. An easy drinking beer for all seasons that is sure to please. A nice aroma with a clean finish. Pairs well with almost any food or snack.
