Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours super hazy golden amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and leaves a little nice lacing.

S: Tropical fruit, citrus, a touch of pine, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.

T: Ripe tropical fruit, mango and papaya, citrus, lime and tangerine, a little spicy pine, hints of blueberry, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, soft on the palate.

O: They pulled out all the best of mosaic hops for this one. Good stuff!

The beer pours out a full on hazy medium golden color, with 1 finger of white head--------- the aromas are of basil, berry, orange, grapefruit, pineapple, dank weed and pine----------- the flavors follow the nose with mostly pine and citrus, the beer has a thin mouthfeel with no bitterness at all---------- overall this beer was very good - this was another solid offering from revision, it was on the thinner side for a new England style but the aroma and flavors were nice, it was full of pungent citrus and pine

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a one pint can on August 31, 2018. Look is pale gold with an off white head and spotty lacing. Smell is grapefruit and pine. Taste is bitter citrus fruit. Feel is a little light in body.

Pale gold, off white head, minor lacing. Aroma of grapefruit and pine. Taste is not too sweet with a lot of citrus and a great bitter finish. Nice creamy mouthfeel but the carb seemed a bit low. Overall a really good beer.

Pours murky (though not completely opaque) light orange, with 1 finger of head on medium-aggressive pour in a standard Revision pint glass. Great head retention and fantastic lacing. Fairly standard NE Revision nose that goes more toward citrus notes. Taste follows the nose, though the yeast is quite apparent. Not the best revision taste, but ok overall for NEIPAs. Body and carbonation level on point, as usual for these guys. Overall, it's a decent NEIPA, but far from Revision's best. Also, I'm somewhat concerned with amounts of floaties I've been getting in Revision NEIPAs recently. Used to never get these, even after sitting on a can for a month, but been noticing more and more recently.

Straight pour from a 16oz can to a tall, narrow pint (Green Cheek nucleated flute). This has a canning date of August 9, 2018 printed in black ink on the underside of the can (“BOSS TWEEDS 08/09/18”), making this beer 20 days old at the time of consumption. Refrigerated consistently.

Appearance (4.25): This pours a good four fingers of fluffy, effervescent vanilla ice cream-colored foam that dissipates surprisingly slowly but also visibly—it’s got multiple textures of bubbles that die away at different rates. It all covers a slightly hazy, bright golden body with orange-straw highlights and dull tan undertones. Eventually the head does die down to leave a big nubbin in the center and wide, arcing splotches of chunky lace tied, ultimately, to that nubbin. This is a surprisingly resilient head, though.

Smell (4.25): This is bright, lemony, and herbaceous, with grassy-lemony aromas, the scent of fresh-cut lawn grass, blue spruce, yellow grapefruit pith, and a nice mineral undertone that ties it all together. The grains offer floury baking soda biscuits and common crackers, with crushed wheat grains rounding it all out. Weirdly, this throws out dry-hopped saison vibes, which I dig.

Taste (4.0): Much softer on the palate than suggested by the nose, this washes in with lemon hard candies, pain de campagne without the crust, and soft dumpling dough. The hops come through with a fainter note of wet, fresh grass, lightly sweetened yellow grapefruit, a touch of simple syrup, and a nice, vaguely herbal finish. It also has a nice, lightly toasted feel that comes through, too, boosted by another, subtle mineral note to accompany the one in the nose. No booze, no astringency.

Mouthfeel (3.75): This is extremely soft and fluffy, but it errs on the side of under-carbonation. It’s soft at the expense of character or backbone. The carbonation is subtle and comes in with a faint tingle before dissolving into the body, offering a Fluff sort of feel, before washing out with a lightly peppery flourish. The body is maybe medium-weight, and again, extremely soft. Still, it’s extremely drinkable.

Overall (4.0): Revision, from what I can tell, is largely dedicated to making trendy, primarily hazy hop bombs of sundry description. And, they do a very good job of it. That said, I think there’s maybe some character that’s lost in the process: they’re cranking out 16oz can-sized hop grenades, no question there—but how memorable each one is in terms of underlying structure or overall impact, I’m not as sure. This all sounds like I’m throwing a lot of shade, but I’m not. This is a very good IPA. Am I going to go back to it? Probably not. Should you grab a pint if you see it on tap, or get a taster if you’re at the brewery? Sure. To be honest, this is super crushable, for 6% ABV, and quite tasty. It’s not shifting any paradigms, though.

Canned 08/08/18

Appearance - Pours hazy and orange in color with an off-white, half finger width head. Fair retention before dissipating to a mostly barren surface and a thin ring of suds around the edge of the glass. A few small spots make up the lace.

Smell - Strong aroma that hits on notes of dank, fresh leaf, mango, orange, grapefruit and pineapple.

Taste - More fruity than on the nose, with mellowed pineapple being most prominent, along with lesser mango. Grapefruit hits mid-taste and brings a touch of pith bitterness. Aftertaste lingers with mild mango tartness and underlying spice and pith.

Mouthfeel - On the lighter side of medium-bodied with low-to-fair carbonation. Slick, easy drinker with a slightly dry finish.

Overall - Another tasty hazy from Revision, but another one that's awfully similar to their core 'hazy' profile (maybe most heavily feature Mosaic?), and at $18 a 4-pack I'd rather just buy their hazy DIPAs if they're gonna be the same price.
